The Economical Insurance Group®
You need an insurance company with a strong financial backbone.
The Economical Insurance Group® has that covered.
From our humble beginnings in 1871 as the Economical Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Berlin, we've continued
to grow in market share. Along with our growth, we have remained a mutual company with a responsibility
to support our policyholders by ensuring financial stability. By remaining completely Canadian owned, we
are not subject to the decisions of a foreign-based parent that can impact operations. We are growing in
an industry where foreign-owned companies control a majority of the business. With our success to date,
it's not hard to see why we are extremely proud of our Canadian heritage.
With recent expansion into the U.S. and the Bahamas, we
are aggressively growing to provide the financial strength
to support Personal and Commercial clients. With our diversification
over the years, we are better able to provide customers
with high value at a reasonable cost. We serve customers
from coast to coast through our member companies.
TEIG® is a mutual company and is therefore
accountable to mutual policyholders rather than shareholders.
The company was founded on a "neighbour helping neighbour"
philosophy that has not wavered over time. A mutual insurance
company has a special relationship with its policyholders.
The basis of a mutual company's mission is to provide insurance
to its members at a reasonable cost. Advantages of a mutual
company:
- a mutual company can focus on the long-term view in operating
its business because it is not subject to the daily volatility
of the stock market and the demands of shareholders for
profits
- a mutual company maintains a focus on it's policyholder
not on creating wealth for shareholders
- a mutual company's financial stability can be strengthened
by mergers and acquisitions
